Candida albicans is a fungus that is occasionally present in the mouth and can overgrow (e.g., thrush) when a person’s immune system is weakened. The most important aspects of prevention program are avoidance of sugar, alcohol, and dairy products. All three provide simple sugars for the fungus to feed upon.
